Regardless of how open-minded we'd like to believe the world is, initial impressions are formed within the first seven seconds of meeting someone. Before you've even had the chance to speak, your clothing has already said plenty.
What you wear is more than simply what you wear. It is a novel that the world will read; it is your autobiography. Most importantly, what you wear can be a key way of expressing your individuality. At Afrobeatnik, we value diversity and originality, and when those two values walk hand-in-hand, they create individualism. We want to support women in finding this individualism by providing unique opportunities for self-expression through personal style.
It can be nearly impossible to tailor your wardrobe to express yourself when shopping malls are selling the same trendy pieces that everyone else is wearing. That is why Afrobeatnik provides a collection of carefully curated vintage clothes for you to choose from. We don’t just thrift because Macklemore said so. Timeless pieces and consigned goods can speak so much more clearly about who you are and what you stand for. A 1950s trench coat from Goodwill can show so much more diversity and originality than a common, mass-produced cardigan from Nordstrom. We know the value of vintage. We believe in your identity and we want your clothes to say that you believe in it too.
British novelist Linda Grant once said, “You cannot have depths without surfaces. They communicate with what is within; between the two there is always a great dialogue.” Your outfit might not be a serious situation, but what’s on the surface reveals what is beneath. Allow your identity and your wardrobe to have a dialogue. Allow your individuality to shine without a moment of dullness because your individuality is what makes you, you.
One of the most beautiful things about individuality is that it prevents you from allowing the opinions of others to limit your possibilities and prevents you from limiting your own beliefs. When you have an open mind and soul, you can contribute greatness to the world. Afrobeatnik strives to help create a society that is united, accepting, and diverse. Just by being you, you can be a part of our mission as well.
We will use our clothes as a stepping stone to the greater path of unity. What you wear is your autobiography; so tell them you are unique, tell them you are special, tell them you are beautiful, and above all else, tell them what makes you a leader. Don’t let that seven seconds go to waste.
