Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live.” -- Coco Chanel

With simply a pair of scissors and a set of fabrics, Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel forever revolutionized the way women dressed. More than a century after her first designs were released, Chanel continued taking the world by storm, using her achievements to influence couture fashion even after her death in 1971. As an iconic creator, Chanel extended beyond clothing through releasing her unique designs in jewelry, handbags, and fragrances. Her signature scent, Chanel No. 5, has become legendary.

After opening her first shop in 1910, Chanel worked her way into the industry by selling hats; however, her dream became reality when she added two new stores in Biarritz and Deauville, France, where she began making clothing, “My fortune is built on that old jersey that I’d put on because it was cold in Deauville,” said Chanel to author Paul Morand. Eventually, her passion led to the creation of the Chanel suit with collarless jacket and fitted skirt in 1925, and her famous little black dress. It is undeniable that her designs have and will forever transform the world.

Inspired by the revolutionary fashion contributions of designers like Chanel, Afrobeatnik has established a network of artisans who construct unique creations. These designers are given the chance to thrive creatively through our process of sustainably recycling vintage clothing for modern-day wear. Through Afrobeatnik’s artisan program, we are changing fashion by bringing back one-of-a-kind, handcrafted wardrobe staples.
